What should I make my character's special item? - answer! Answers

What should I make my character's special item?

I want my character to have something to her that means a lot to her, like in the hunger games katniss has the mockingjay, but i cant think of anything!
She likes to swim, so i was kind of thinking that i should make it be a little fish figurine that was given to her by her father before he died. And he would say something to her when he give it to her that is something inspirational, but i kinda think thats cheesy. haha.
any ideas?

Hehe, the fish thing is kind of cheesy, but it's almost impossible to NOT make something like this cheesy. The only thing I can think of that would make it not cheesy, is if she didnt get it as a gift, but stole it from his dresser or something. Maybe it was his special keepsake, and she stole it to give herself good luck, and he got really mad at himself for losing it before he died and she never told him that she was the one who took it. It'd be great if she had a kind of guilt mixed with love when she holds it, like remembering how sad he was to have lost it. Maybe she almost threw it into his grave, and didn't, and feels selfish for holding on to it, like she's taken a piece of him that he wasn't necessarily willing to give away.

Maybe somewhere during the story, you can find out that he was actually planning on giving it to her as a gift? Like, she finally tells her mother or someone close to her dad that she stole it from him, and they're all "he was so upset it was gone because he was planning on it being your next birthday present!"

Hope that helps!
